The Cut & Hold Distal End Cutter is designed to trim orthodontic archwire close to the bracket or buccal tube, while safely capturing the cut-off end rather than letting it fall free. This dual action — cutting and holding — makes it a practical choice for intraoral use, where a loose wire fragment could otherwise be difficult to retrieve or, worse, accidentally swallowed or aspirated by the patient.

The instrument features a long handle paired with a compact head, giving clinicians easy access to posterior areas and hard-to-reach sections of the arch without sacrificing control. Its cutting capacity handles archwire up to .021″ x .025″ (.53mm x .64mm), covering the vast majority of standard orthodontic wire sizes used in day-to-day practice.

Both cutting edges are fitted with hard steel inserts, which provide sharper, longer-lasting cutting performance than standard steel jaws alone — reducing the frequency of instrument replacement and maintaining precise, clean cuts over extended use.
